99% merino kate sylvester dress = 1 total impluse purchase (it was 50% off! although still a shocking moment for my credit card!)

18... the approximate number of times i howled "oh no... i can't believe that just happened" when my new, and oh so cute buttermilk plate slid off the stool in the aforementioned changing room and crunched on the concrete wall... i still can't believe it...

3 x 50c maps + 1 x 50c pears cyclopeadia (53rd edition, published c.1940) purchased from an amazing antique shop in woodville

umbrella + me

 Umbrella+me

rain rain rain. after 4 days of non-stop rain it is fair to say my umbrella & i are best buds. i still don't have a car so after work i am dodging the drops... the wet weather is also playing havoc with my training. i decided last weekend (after a fair bit of arm twisting) to enter the palmerston north half marathon. it is less than 6 weeks away, cue panic. training is not something you can skimp on and i really learnt my lesson last time.

in other news i have been baking up a storm. every day this week in fact. yesterday i made the yummiest afghans. thank goodness i can share them around at work :) ooh and i've also been perfecting my curls. third day was the charm (my first two efforts really didn't look anything like i wanted!) i must admit i often lament having fine hair but i love that i can create waves in under 10 minutes...

really gotta work on some creative goodness. it's meant to rain over the weekend. not so good for the 75 minute run i've got planned, but perfect for new minis...

un-rolled...

guess who's cinnamon rolls failed to make an appearance yesterday?

Cook

i was inspired...i measured...i mixed...i forgot to dissolve the yeast in the warm milk but thought hey let's run with it... but

Oven

the oven blew up! well not literally but there was a very loud bang when mr fix-it connected two wires that probably shouldn't have been acquainted. oh well, mr fix-it happened to know a recipe for damper so managed to cook a little of the batter on the bbq. it was delicious with butter & jam :)

i think that eating these rolls of cinnamon-y goodness...

...could just be the cure for the inspiration-blogless-blues. i bought a new sieve in the weekend (not often you'd hear someone getting excited over that, but a lumpy cake does not a happy baker maketh) so a batch of these cinnamon rolls could be the perfect occasion. i'm pretty sure my workmates will enjoy them too :) photo & recipe from joy the baker

Morning
{16/06/2009 7:04am Waimarama Beach}

i've found my camera charger!... i'd managed to wedge it behind the tv, strange but true. i'm going to put it in a safe, yet memorable place from now on. although when i look at these beautiful photos i'm thinking next time i should just lose my camera and then i'll be forced to upgrade. santa? if you're reading this post, click here... but make sure your sitting down before checking out the price!

word worm

it's funny how certain things stick in your mind... early in the week i read this, found via the always-inspiring amy tangerine. the joy of less - something we can all aspire to. but within the essay it was this sentence that i found myself mulling over late last night...

"Being self-employed will always make for a precarious life; these days, it is more uncertain than ever, especially since my tools of choice, written words, are coming to seem like accessories to images."

i think sadly this is true and such an interesting concept. as a designer i am a sucker for things that look good, that are pleasing to my eyes. but, for all the pretties i rip from magazines, collect from the internet and acquire through good fortune, words still line the walls of my mind. i find myself writing down quotes, names, words i like the sound of but have no idea of the meaning. i'm drawn to poets like e.e. cummings who arranges words. like objects on a mantlepiece.

marta's latest journalling prompt awakens the word worm inside me. i too love to make lists. my june is already brimming with unanswered questions. i can't wait to write in my journal...

button book

a while ago you may remember i made a pile of fabric journals to sell at a quilting show {see here for more behind-the-scenes}. well with monday a holiday here i made the most of my long weekend and took a trip home to visit the lovely ladies at quilters lane, who sold my journals on their stand. and good news! i sold 12 :) so that means i have a few extra to sell on felt and trademe. im already suffering a little analysis paralysis, check out this great article on decor8. but i do love this fabric adventure...

here's a journal i made as an example. it was so fun to make. buttons have that effect on me!
