• Finishing my TAIF prompt...
• Going to our local scrapbook store and seeing if they need any new tutors in 2009. I'm really nervous. If I write it here and never speak type of it again, then you will know I chickened out... Must be brave... I suppose I should really just say something if I did in fact start tutoring. I'm rambling, that's how you know I'm nervous. I am sooo tempted to hit delete.

18. Get a new haircut

So I did it. After 7 months (yikes, that sounds bad) of blatant avoidance I had my date with the scissors. And before I show you the pics, and yes I have a rant brewing, what is it with me and haircuts? Because I've just moved to a new place I still don't know many girls that you can tap on the shoulder and say, "Wow, your hair is amazing, where did you get it done?". Instead I just had to be brave and pick a place (I liked the logo...) and then leave it all up to the hairdressing gods to decide who will cut my hair. In those fashion magazine they all say, "Go in for a consultation". Phooey. You're not gonna know whether this person can cut or not until they do!

Phew. You can come out now. Rant over. In any case my hair looks a lot healthier and the cut is kinda cute.

Kaleidoscope: a complex pattern of constantly changing colours and shapes

A very small scale kaleidoscope created in my journal this morning. I have never really taken much of an interest in hexagons before but there is something immensely satisfying about tessellation and triangle-shaped surprises...

Sunday is perfect for... wandering around the garden with your camera... meeting your best friend for lunch... doing the vacuuming... planning lino prints... and being inspired by Julia Rothman, a New York illustrator and pattern designer.

I love Julia's hand drawn patterns and she was kind enough to share how to create a repeating pattern by hand here. So cool! Julia also has a blog Book By Its Cover, the sketchbook section is particularly inspiring :)

Oh my. Oh my goodness. These are the only words that I have uttered since making these cookies. Joy must have known that I had some free time and a weakness for peppermint & chocolate. And ma, before you go and check out the recipe, just remember it was you who started this peppermint & chocolate obsession, and I have only eaten 2. Promise.... And err... A couple of spoonfuls of dough... 

Anyways, yummy recipe, it makes heeeeeeaps i.e. 4/5 trays (I lost count!) over 40 biscuits... 

In other news I finished my postcards. I cut a couple of triangles back to front so ended up with a couple of trees that are less traditional.

P.S. I have a couple extra cards and was thinking it could be cool to do a mini-Christmas card-swap if anyone is interested? Leave me a comment or an email and I'll organise some stamps > International swap-ettes welcome ;)

Only 16 sleeps til Christmas! It really feels like it has snuck up on me this year... Every year I try to make cards, in part because I like doing it and part because I'm the 'crafty sister/friend/daughter/granddaughter/niece' (although I did see some gorgeous PaperSource letterpressed Christmas cards that almost snuck into my suitcase!) And so this morning I visited my local scrapbook store for some inspiration... And.... nothing. Last year Basic Grey's 'Figgy-Pudding' collection was love-at-first-sight. 

This sweet, simple postcard is the result. If like me, you've left things a little late (and gosh, anytime is good up until Christmas Eve, you can always use them for tags) I've put together a wee step-by-step for you...

The measurements (because measuring stuff properly the first time means I can cut corners later ;)

I cut postcards from kraft cardstock 10.5 x 14.5cm. For the tree I started with a triangle 8 x 11cm and then cut my template as follows: L at 5cm, a cm for 'Merry' and L2 at 5cm. R is cut at 8cm, a cm for 'Christmas' and R2 is 2cm high.

Then it was easy to cut strips of patterned paper and use my template as a guide. I randomly typed 'Merry Christmas' on the Imperial Concord (awesome name for a typewriter huh?!) and then cut those into strips as well.

I then assembled all the pieces of tree and my backing paper and glued them all down. Ta da!

I did debate as to whether the trees needed trunks but decided not to sweat the small stuff :)
