venice beach

 

these nautical-stripe-summer favor bags were just too pretty to pass up on a recent trip to the amazing urbanic paper boutique in venice beach. i spent nearly an hour looking at all of the beautiful goodies and quietly calculating how much extra i could try and cram into terence (my faithful suitcase)! let's just say i was very responsible and only left with a couple of beautiful cards, a notebook for my internship designs, favor bags and the latest issue of uppercase magazine. if you're ever in LA, urbanic is too good to miss!

on the road again

we made it! thanks to our fantastic nav-man (we changed his accent to american for extra authenticity), yummy in-and-out burgers and charged up from a coffee date with new friends.

today i start my internship with the amazing megan of maemae paperie. it all feels very surreal right now and far removed from my old life in our little house by the sea, but i am so excited to start this new adventure!

libraries

you might think it silly but i'm not shy to admit my love of libraries. free books, magazines and always a good spot to work; since i'm freelancing at the moment it's good to leave the confines/distractions/ice cream at our hotel.

i got brave organised over the weekend and sorted through all the assorted tickets, receipts, maps, brochures, i have been gathering over the past month. this page is only a small sample but i'm glad i've made a start!

travel-versary!

yesterday we celebrated our one month travel-versary!

it was great to spend some time over a lovely dinner (it's been a long week of $3 microwave meals!) reflecting on the experience so far, and our plans for the next leg of our trip.

we were even lucky enough to capture the last couple minutes of a firework display. i love how our camera's inadequacies make this firework look just like a diamond.

i'm on the look-out for some art (needs to be transportable, easily breakables need not apply) that we can take/send home to remember our time here in the states.

so far these are the thing's american flags map is my favourite (on their blog they even show a sketch here of where it all started, very inspiring!)

i'd love to hear any other suggestions! california or arizona themed would be even better!

i know; two posts one day!

i wanted to share a blog post written by molly of orangette 'how we do what we do'. take a read, it really resonated with me (the comments are interesting too, esp. the bad/empty page)...

"Actually, what I really want is for us to sit around - you, me, all of us who write or draw or design or compose or do any kind of remotely creative work for a living - and talk about how we work, how we do what we do. Creative work means making something where there was nothing before, making something out of ourselves. I have a feeling that I’m not only one who spends a lot of time pacing at the mouth of the cave, wringing her hands, worrying about the bats."

project runway

as previously mentioned, i am a huge project runway fan. i love, love, love the creative process and all those crazy challenges! and as if i needed another level of excitement (aside from being able to keep up with the latest episodes), ez (from creature comforts) has been challenged to blog post-show using inspiration each week. so fun! follow along here...
