"You can’t wait for perfection. You can always wait for the perfect moment, the perfect this, the perfect that. But you really just gotta start doing. And it makes all the difference. Making excuses takes the same time as making progress.” ~Justin Gignac

"I never dreamt to be a model, never never dreamt to be a fashion editor but I just love the pages and the pictures. In my early years as a fashion editor, I worked with Norman Parkinson who was a really big photographer, and he taught me to always keep your eyes open, you know. Never go to sleep in the car or anything like that, keep watching because whatever you see out the window or wherever, it can inspire you."

lately my to do lists have been full of boring-if i-had-any-intention-of-doing-they-would-have-been-done chores. yuck. so my friends i present to you: the amazing june love what you do list
i know! doesn't that sound like the best list ever? it's thanks in part to inspiration from this mini book, these quotes and this make-under {more on both those below}.
i've given myself a deadline of 1st july, but part of the rules, so to speak, is that everything on this list is for fun {sadly, i seem to get caught up in the frustrating and demoralising perfection spiral} so if anything doesn't turn out quite right it's no biggie.
so without further ado, here's a few things i'm loving doing in june:
+ sewing a dress
+ sorting out my crafty nook - which is perfect timing for jess' summer slim down challenge
just a wee snapshot of my box city!
+ eating 5+ fruit and vegetables every day
+ making some gift cards {currently inspired by these cards, and again, these necklaces}
+ buying some watercolour paints
+ keeping the following close to my heart:
find joy in what brings you joy. if you love blogging, keep it up. make whatever you're passionate about fit within the frame of your life. you may have to cut out a few activities to fit in the important things (don't forget to prioritize who you love too). remember that you're unique, you have a story to tell. the best blogs are the genuine ones full of personality and originality. don't be afraid to share who you are. do what you love. love what you do.

you know you're onto something good when the editorial statement reads,
"pilot champions a new emerging zeitgeist based on creativity, authenticity, craftsmanship, aesthetics and social change. if you change the things you look at, the things you look at change. this third issue of pilot is another carefully curated chronicle of the collective consciousness containing art, design, fashion, romance, magic and mystery. from our minds to yours, welcome to our world." {abridged}
the pages that follow do not disappoint. as a magazine aficionado anything that involves a mix of glossy and matte paper, bold typography, dreamy photography and at a reasonable price ($15 from borders bookstore) is a winner. and that's only the physical aspects. the articles are interesting, well written and cover a wide range of topics.
my favourite quote would have to be from the interview with isaac hindin miller,
"they say a picture paints a thousand words. i want my words to paint a thousand pictures".
and this is from a piece that features eight interviews and is written ALL IN CAPS. and until i consciously noticed that fact while typing the quote above, i had no notion of being shouted at. that is some seriously neat graphic design.
i'm not too sure when the next issue will be available in-store but keep an eye out for it, you will be blown away by some crazy new zealand talent.
