you know you're onto something good when the editorial statement reads,
"pilot champions a new emerging zeitgeist based on creativity, authenticity, craftsmanship, aesthetics and social change. if you change the things you look at, the things you look at change. this third issue of pilot is another carefully curated chronicle of the collective consciousness containing art, design, fashion, romance, magic and mystery. from our minds to yours, welcome to our world." {abridged}
the pages that follow do not disappoint. as a magazine aficionado anything that involves a mix of glossy and matte paper, bold typography, dreamy photography and at a reasonable price ($15 from borders bookstore) is a winner. and that's only the physical aspects. the articles are interesting, well written and cover a wide range of topics.
my favourite quote would have to be from the interview with isaac hindin miller,
"they say a picture paints a thousand words. i want my words to paint a thousand pictures".
and this is from a piece that features eight interviews and is written ALL IN CAPS. and until i consciously noticed that fact while typing the quote above, i had no notion of being shouted at. that is some seriously neat graphic design.
i'm not too sure when the next issue will be available in-store but keep an eye out for it, you will be blown away by some crazy new zealand talent.
